A British woman was killed after accidentally reversing her car off a multi-storey car park.
Linda al-Selmie, 53, plunged from the sixth floor of the tower in Abu Dhabi because the barriers around the edge were unsafe, an inquest into her death has ruled.
She was in her BMW when it fell 24 metres from the Sheikh Khalifa Energy Complex on January 25, 2015.
The coroner ruled the concrete and metal barriers around the edge of the multi-storey, which were 90cm high, did not meet safety standards, the Times reported.
The barriers were too short and close to the edge.
Senior coroner Crispin Oliver at Crook in County Durham said: “The barrier at the edge of the building was 16.68cm too short and should have been 110cm further from the edge."
In the United Arab Emirates, police have launched a probe over the death.
Ms al-Selmie, who moved to Abu Dhabi from Darlington with her Iraqi engineer husband, died at the scene from a cerebral haemorrhage and crushed chest.
Mr Crispin recorded a verdict of accidental death.
