"Rabbits" ride Boris Bikes and mice play darts in a YouTube video opposing animal testing which was dreamed up at an Evening Standard event.

The short film is part of a social networking campaign that asks members of the public if they are an "animal person". It was the idea of artist Josef O'Connor and environment activist Tamsin Omond in an impromptu brainstorming session at the Standard's Influentials party last week.

Both were named among the 1,000 most influential Londoners.

Within five days, O'Connor had shot the film which features his friends dressed as animals performing human tasks around Old Street and Columbia Road Flower Market.

Hundreds of people have already seen the Are You An #Animalperson? video and shown their support by tweeting photographs of themselves and their pets and posting them on the campaign's Facebook page.

Model Daisy Lowe tweeted a picture of her dog Monty and wrote: "Im definitely an #animalperson are you??!" Climate Rush founder Omond, 27, is global campaigns manager for cosmetics company Lush, which is tonight holding an awards ceremony at the Yard in Shoreditch with £250,000 in prizes for groups working in cruelty-free scientific research.

She said she hoped the film will rally millions of animal lovers to the cause.

She said: "I hadn't seen Josef in three or four years until I saw him at the Influentials and I was telling him about all the things I've been up to. We were kind of brainstorming." She said the pair talked about being "an animal person" and it became their slogan.

She added: "By saying that you're an 'animal person' you're saying that you like cats and watching those videos on YouTube but also that you're standing up for animals." O'Connor, 22, who lives in Shoreditch, said: "I liked the idea of coming up with a non-judgmental, non-political statement."
