A 35-year-old man has been arrested after 11 teenagers were injured when a car ploughed into them after a football match.

The incident happened at Cornelly United Football Club near Bridgend in South Wales at 8 pm on Thursday.

Police said the teens who were taken to hospital were around 17 and 18 years of age.

No-one is believed to have sustained life threatening injuries.

Two fire crews also attended the scene and the Welsh Ambulance Service sent three three emergency ambulances, two rapid response units and members of their hazardous area response team.

Police said: “We were called to a serious RTC on Meadow Street, North Cornelly, shortly before 8pm this evening.

“A number of people have been injured, none of the injuries are thought to be life threatening.

“A 35-year-old man has been arrested and is in police custody.”

Joe Jones, Cornelly United FC club secretary told the BBC that the incident happened after Cornelly’s reserves team beat Margam 5-0 at its Meadow Street ground in North Cornelly.

He said players and supporters were standing in the club car park when a BMW collided with them causing "carnage."

"It was horrible. There were parents there, there were people rushing over to help," he said.

"The ambulance and the police were amazing, how quickly they got there.”

Cornelly United tweeted that its player Scott Walker has tissue damage in his knee and his hip.

"He will be on crutches for the next few weeks and will also need lots of physio," the club said on Twitter.

"Things could have been a lot, lot worse."

Police have urged anyone with information or footage to contact them. They have asked people not to share videos on social media as it could “frustrate the investigation.”
