Cloud cover delays shuttle launch

British astronaut Nicholas Patrick is part of a Nasa crew blasting off into orbit
12 April 2012

Clouds have delayed the launch of space shuttle Endeavour.

NASA called everything off with just nine minutes left in the countdown. The band of low clouds started moving into the area late Saturday night and forced the delay.

Launch managers said they would try again at a later date. Slightly better weather was expected.

Endeavour is loaded with a new room for the International Space Station, as well as an observation deck.

A British-born astronaut will be part of a Nasa crew blasting off into orbit as part of the mission to the International Space Station.

Dr Nicholas Patrick, originally from Saltburn-by-the-Sea, North Yorkshire, will be heading towards the stars in Endeavour.
