Coronavirus cases in London: Latest figures show Hackney and City of London have highest rate of new Covid-19 cases

The number of cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 people is highest in Hackney and the City of London, new London data reveals.

The rolling seven-day rate of new cases of coronavirus shows that new cases per 100,000 people have dropped in 12 local authorities.

However, the data also shows a rise in cases in 19 local authorities. Only one local authority, Westminster, remained the same week-on-week, with 3.5 cases per 100,000 people.

The local authority with the highest rate continues to be Hackney and City of London, with a rate of 15.3 cases per 100,000. Last week the pair, which have been combined by Public Health England for the purposes of counting, recorded a rate of 14.9.

They are followed by Tower Hamlets, which recorded 8.2 new cases per 100,000 people.

The local authority with the lowest number of new cases was Bromley, with just 1.2 new case per 100,000 people.

The figures, for the seven days to July 24, are based on tests carried out in laboratories and in the wider community.

Samples are taken at a coronavirus testing facility in Temple Green Park and Ride, Leeds, as NHS Test and Trace is rolled out across England.

Data for the most recent three days (July 25 to 27) has been excluded as it is incomplete and likely to be revised.

The list is based on Public Health England figures updated on July 27 on the Government’s coronavirus online dashboard.

Here is the list in full, showing the rate of new cases in the seven days to July 24, followed by the equivalent figure for the previous seven days to July 17.

The rate is expressed as number of new cases per 100,000 people.
