Sheep farmer goes viral after sharing hair cutting expertise during lockdown

With barbers across the UK shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, one sheep farmer took matters into his own hands to give himself a haircut.

Using the tools available to him, Donie Anderson set about giving his hair a trim with a pair of shears, sharing a video of the process and the final result on his Facebook page.

After starting the video with a full head of hair, Mr Anderson, 62, is later seen with a lot less after giving himself the haircut with a large pair of shears.

The video, in which he remarks his hair won't be blowing in the wind for a while, has been viewed nearly 900,000 times.

But Mr Anderson wasn't sure what all the fuss was about, telling the Irish Examiner that he cuts his own hair with shears a few times a year.

Mr Anderson, who lives in the Dublin mountains where he is currently lambing 130 ewes, said: "I normally shear it at Christmas but there were bad colds around then and I was to be an extra in a local drama of The Field so I left it.

"The weather was warm today so I cut it, using the phone screen as a mirror. It's normally a bit neater.

"Sure the shears are as good as any and the hair will start to grow back in a few days anyway."

No stranger to the shears, Mr Anderson has won a number of sheep shearing championships throughout Ireland.

With his working dog Jess, he also regularly takes part in dog shows, sheep dog trials and demonstrations.
