Drinkers hurt as car hits pub

A number of drinkers have been injured after a car crashed in to a pub, police said.

The accident happened shortly after 11.30pm on Thursday when a Seat Leon crashed in to the Railway Inn pub in Pedmore Road, Lye, West Midlands.

Police said the car was travelling towards Lye when it crashed in to the pub, causing extensive damage.

A statement released by West Midlands Police said: "Several people in the car and in the pub at the time were injured.

"The driver of the vehicle, a man believed to be in his mid 20s, was taken to hospital with head injuries - he is currently in a critical but stable condition.

"Several other people sustained serious injuries but none are thought to be life threatening."

Police said Pedmore Road was closed.

Road diversions are in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
