Ed Sheeran is reportedly having to self-isolate for the second time in just a few weeks due to Covid-19.

The star, 30, was said to be told to stay home after receiving a notification that he had come in to close contat with a Covid case.

It comes just days after the singer leftf travel-related quarantine after flying home from America.

He was in New York in order to make a starring appearance on James Corden’s chat show.

It was unclear whether Mr Sheeran was pinged by the NHS app or contacted by Test and Trace, according to The Sun.

It is also not known where he came in to contact with the Covid case.

He was stood near to Prince William, Duchess Kate and their eldest son George.

England footballer David Beckham was also in the box.

Sheeran was last spotted in public with his wife Cherry, 29, in London a few days ago but it is understood the singer has since returned to his home to Suffolk.

Mr Sheeran has reportedly not tested positive for Covid since being informed he must isolate.

Due to having to self-isolate, he has had to cancel a number of planned promotional activities for his single Bad Habits.

A source said to the newspaper: “It’s a bit of a nightmare for Ed, but what can you do? He’s obviously followed the rules and headed straight home when he was told to.

“Unfortunately, this has come while he’s in the middle of a major comeback after a hiatus but he’ll have to work around it for the ten days.”

The insider added: “He has taken several tests which came back negative but that doesn’t make a difference so he’s just getting on with whatever he can do from home.

“He has absolutely no idea when he came into contact with somebody with Covid. He was at Wembley for the Germany game but that seems a bit too far back — but there’s just no telling exactly when and where it happened.”

It comes amid a rising number of people having to self-isolate across the country - with the measure having notable impact on several industries.

Government figures on Tuesday showed COVID-related pupil absence in England had hit a new record high with more than 830,000 children out of school last week. This is the highest figures since pupils returned to school in March this year.

As many as one in five workers in the hospitality and retail sectors are self-isolating due to Covid restrictions, industry figures also warned this week.
