Embassy visit for 9/11 project pupils

5 September 2013

Two London schoolchildren are among eight attending a special ceremony at the US embassy today for their award-winning projects on 9/11.

The teenagers, aged 14 to 16, were selected by a judging panel including actor Kevin Spacey and historian Simon Schama, after submitting essays and short films on the atrocity. As well as receiving an award at the London embassy, all eight will travel to New York to coincide with the 12th anniversary of 9/11 and be given £500 in prize money.

Organisers, the 9/11 London Project, will take the finalists to New York this week where they will meet mayor Rudolph Giuliani, 9/11 New York Fire Department Commissioner Thomas Von Essen, and members of victims’ families.
