An England fan will appear in court in South Africa on Thursday charged with culpable homicide after a car crash which left one man dead and another critically injured.

Driver James Haywood was arrested on Sunday after the accident on the N1 between Bloemfontein and Colesberg.

It is understood Haywood and two friends were on their way to watch the game between Slovakia and Paraguay in Bloemfontein.

Police believe their car made a U-turn on the national road and collided with an oncoming vehicle.

Colonel Vishnu Naidoo, spokesman for the South African Police Service, said a man with dual Polish and South African citizenship who was travelling in the other car was killed.

The other occupant of the oncoming car was taken to hospital.

Haywood has already appeared at Bloemfontein Magistrates' Court where he was granted bail of 1,000 rand (£90) and his passport was withheld.

He was due to appear at the same court on Thursday.
