Britain’s biggest lottery winners have reportedly purchased a used Volvo estate in their first splurge since claiming the £184million jackpot.

Couple Joe and Jess Thwaite, from Gloucester, spent £38,000 from their £184 million EuroMillions win on the understated grey Volve V60, The Sun reports.

Neighbours told the paper they are hardly surprised the pair have yet to spend vast amounts of their staggering windfall.

“They’re mega lottery winners but first and foremost they’re down-to-earth people who have worked hard their whole lives,” said one.

“The car is smart, respectable and sensible - just like Joe and Jess.”

After the big win, Mr Thwaite admitted that he is not “a great car person”, and his dream motor was a Skoda Superb estate “because of the amount of stuff you can get in the boot”.

“My family is quite grumpy with me because I’m really boring with cars,” he said.

“This is new to me but I’m going to get something that does the job and is a big upgrade to my old little car that’s covered in dents.”

The couple won the record-breaking windfall last month and Mr Thwaite, a communication sales engineer, has already handed in his notice.

Mrs Thwaite runs a hairdressing salon with her sister. The couple have two primary school-aged children and have been married 11 years.

They scooped a record-breaking £184,262,899 with a Lucky Dip ticket in the May 10 draw.

Since then, have been enjoying searching for homes on RightMove with no monetary limit.

Asked what he had set as an upper price limit, Mr Thwaite told PA: “I don’t know, I think I got up to about £7 million and then I just thought I was being stupid. I thought ‘what are you doing?’”

“It was just for fun because we thought it wasn’t real. He just played for a minute and just dreamed for a minute,” Mrs Thwaite said.

The couple had recently purchased a home and The Sun reports the pair are pressing ahead with upgrades that had been planned prior to their win.
