Event rider dies at horse trials

A professional event rider died after falling from his horse while competing.

Ian Olding, 47, died at the Belton Park Horse Trials in Lincolnshire, said organisers British Eventing.

An investigation into the accident has been launched.

Alex Fox, chairman of British Eventing, said: "Our sympathies on this sad day are with Ian's family.

"Ian was a well-known and much respected rider who has been competing for many years.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends."

Mr Olding, who was based in Sandbach, Cheshire, but originally from Ireland was competing in the advanced section of the trials when he fell from his 12-year-old horse, Gran-Kiki, at a fence.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: "There are no suspicious circumstances we are aware of. Normal inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the accident are on-going."
