Facebook hides 'in favour of leaving EU' button after complaints of bias

In favour of leaving the EU status was suggested to many users

Facebook has been accused of bias over an status update which automatically suggests people come out in favour of Brexit.

Users of the website found an ‘in favour of leaving the EU’ tab suggested when browsing a list of suggested posts.

There was no ‘in favour of remaining in the EU’ post suggested to users which had to be searched for separately, prompting them to accuse the social media giant of bias.

The pro-Brexit update has now been removed from the list of suggested 'feelings' and Facebook has been forced to deny claims that it is biased.

A Facebook spokesman said:"People who search for EU when they are using our status tool will see a full range of options enabling them to add if they are thinking of leaving or remaining in the EU.

"People scrolling through the list of activities see options based on what their friends and other people have been using."
