The family of a mother and daughters injured in a knife attack at their home have told of their "deep shock and upset" over the incident.
Victoria Meek and her three-year-old daughter remained in a "critical" condition after being stabbed, while her six-year-old daughter was "stable" after also being wounded, police said.
A 28-year-old man - thought to be the younger girl's father - is in custody after being arrested in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.
In a statement given to police, Ms Meek's mother said: "The family would like to thank everybody for their support at this traumatic time. We are deeply shocked and upset by what has happened.
"We would like to be left alone to deal with this as a family and to allow Victoria and her children to recover in peace."
Officers said Ms Meek, 23, and her older daughter were being treated at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in Norwich but the younger child had been transferred to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.
Locals said Ms Meek was a single mother who lived with her daughters in the top-floor flat near Norwich city centre.
The police watchdog has said it might investigate Norfolk Police's handling of the case. Neighbours said there was often noise from the flat and sources said Ms Meek had made previous calls to police.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said Norfolk Police had voluntarily referred the case and asked officials to consider an investigation.
An IPCC spokesman said officials were examining evidence and no decision had yet been made about the launch of an inquiry. Police were unavailable for comment.
