First picture of new Great British Bake Off line-up sends Twitter into meltdown over 'parody' judges

The first picture released of the new Great British Bake Off line-up has sent Twitter into meltdown, with fans criticising the quartet as a “parody” of departing favourites Mel, Sue and Mary Berry.

Channel 4 tweeted the picture alongside the caption ‘good things come to those who bake’ from its official account last night, having sensationally won the rights from the BBC in a reported £75m deal last year.

The new line-up - household cook Prue Leith, comedian Noel Fielding, Sandi Toksvig and returning Paul Hollywood - are shown standing side by side in a traditional Bake-Off setting, each holding a different cupcake.

Beloved hosts Mary Berry, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins left the show following the announcement and will work on a rival BBC production.

Celebrity baker Paul Hollywood followed the show to Channel 4, with previous winner Nadiya Hussain taking over for the BBC.

Devastated fans of its BBC incarnation have taken to Twitter to voice their anger at the changes once more.

Anna Kmetti: “Literally exactly it looks like a parody of the actual thing, Mary, Mel and Sue lookalikes.”

While Emily simply tweeted: “This is the biggest downgrade I’ve ever seen.”

But not all fans were angered by the photo, with some saying that the tweet had made them exicted for the new series.

Andy Griffiths said: “It doesn't bother me at all - I like Sandi and Noel and I think it will be every bit as good as it was on the BBC. You'll see! #GBBO.”

Channel 4 has yet to announce when the new show will air.
