Glastonbury Festival could move to Longleat after the music events founder confirmed he is currently in talks with the stately home estate.

The five-day festival is reportedly set to move from Worthy Farm, where it has been held since 1970, to a new location in 2018

A new location is yet to be announced but Michael Eavis, the founder of Glastonbury Festival, today said he was discussing a potential move to the Longleat estate.

He told ITV News that he was hoping to come to an agreement with the 9,000 acre stately home estate, which is famous for its safari park and maze.

He said: “We haven’t done so [come to an agreement] yet, but they’re quite keen. I want to move there in 2019 basically.

“Worthy Farm is very warm, it's full of atmosphere and character and history as well, but I really do need an alternative site, no doubt about it.”

He added there was still a “long way to go” on securing a site as arrangement would have to be made with Salisbury City Council and the police.

A spokesman for Longleat said: "We are in very early discussions with the festival team about the option of the festival moving to Longleat for a single year some time in the future.

“It is on a very, very preliminary level at this time though. We don't have anything else to add."
