A father-of-two who struggled to find a buyer for his six-bedroom mansion is selling it in a raffle for £2 a ticket.

Dunstan Low is hoping to sell half a million tickets in order to fetch the asking-price for Melling Manor in Lancashire.

The 37-year-old said the house would be reposessed by the bank if he doesn’t sell it.

Mr Low, who used to work in IT marketing, bought the property in 2011 for £435,000 but was forced to put it on the market three years later after falling on hard times.

His initial asking price was £800,000 but he had to take it off the market after receiving no offers.

The family then decided to put it up for sale again in December for £845,000, but soon-after dropped the price to offers over £650,000.

Mr Low, who lives in the house with his wife Natasha and their two children, Dylan 15, and Ozzy, five, then decided to take matters into his own hands organising the raffle.

He told the Standard: “It was really out of frustration. The whole process of viewings and offers, it felt antiquated and frustrating so last week I set up the website and it just took off.”

Within days Mr Low had raised thousands of pounds and he has currently sold £120,000 worth of tickets.

The raffle will be drawn on August 1 this year, unless Mr Low sells the house, which is still on the market.

If he does manage to the sell property he says he will instead offer money generated from the raffle as a cash prize.

Mr Low told the Standard in an ideal world he would like to see the property go to a family who has struggled to put down a deposit on a home.

He said: “That would be my perfect scenario. The house has stunning proportions and scale. It’s fantastic for a family. It's in the middle of nature, with pheasants running through your garden.”
