A selfie taken by a victim of the Manchester terror attack on “the day she met her best friend” is providing comfort for a teenager who survived the bombing.

Freya Lewis was at an Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester Arena when suicide bomber Salman Abedi blew himself up.

The 14-year-old survived the blast but her best friend Nell Jones was one of 22 people killed on May 22.

The teenager returned home from hospital more than 30 days after the attack, her father Nick Lewis confirmed in an emotional blog post.

He also revealed his daughter had taken comfort in a picture her friend told her was taken on the day the pair met, the Mirror reported.

He wrote: “All continues to be well with Freya at home. She’s getting a lot of sleep, and we’re doing some catching up too. So far, there is no doubt that the time was right to come home.

“The hospital had a shower in a wet room. Our bathroom isn’t designed to be a wet room, but after Freya’s shower this morning, which took a collective effort of well over an hour, it had officially become one. We’d used every towel we own.

“Her mood remains positive, she has spent a lot of time since she’s been home finding pictures and videos with Nell.

“She even found the selfie that Nell had insisted was taken the first time that they ever met, in Year 7. Finding these pictures has been really good for Freya, as it reminds her just who Nell was and how much she loved her.”

A fundraising page set up by the family following the attack as so-far raised £17,267 for the Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust charity.
