Trading on the London Stock Exchange was delayed by an hour this morning after a technical glitch.

The issue prevented one of the world’s biggest markets opening on time at 8am.

A spokesman for the London Stock Exchange Group said the problem, which prevented the opening auction taking place, has now been resolved.

He said: “Due to a technical issue, the opening auction on London Stock Exchange was delayed this morning."

The auction is key in determining the opening prices for stocks.

Stocks finally opened for trading at 9am, with the FTSE 100 rising 0.5%.

Germany’s Deutsche Börse exchange operator was hit by a delay in the opening of some trading in March after facing “serious issues”.
