Drivers faced long tailbacks on the M25 this morning as thick fog caused delays and an accident temporarily closed the Dartford Crossing.

Queues stretched back from junction 1A (Swanscombe) to junction 3 (Swanley) following a crash between a car and a lorry.

Highways England said “normal conditions” were expected to return at around 9.45am.

The Dartford tunnel had earlier been shut temporarily.

A Kent police spokeswoman said: "We were called at 5.34am to a collision on the anti-clockwise stretch of the M25 close to the Dartford crossing.

"It involved a lorry and a car, no injuries have been reported.

"Temporary lane closures were put into place to clear the road."

All lanes have since reopened.
