Macmillan Coffee Morning is the charity’s biggest annual fundraising event, designed to raise money for people living with cancer.

Due to officially take place on September 29, Macmillan is asking people around the country to host their own coffee mornings, with proceeds being donated to the charity’s efforts.

Originally launched in 1990, Macmillan started the initiative with a simple idea: to bring together people around the country for a coffee and a catch-up, all for a good cause. People would donate the cost of their cuppa to help Macmillan support people with cancer.

It’s since evolved into one of the world’s biggest coffee morning events while helping to raise millions for people living with cancer. In 2022, Macmillan raised an incredible £12 million through coffee mornings across the country and this year they’re aiming for even more.

So how can you get involved this year? Let’s take a look.

What is Macmillan’s Coffee Morning all about?

Macmillan’s Coffee Morning is built on the idea of bringing people together for a good cause.

A Coffee Morning event can be set up by anyone around the country (or even overseas) and you don’t need to have a specific reason to throw a get-together.

Once you’ve registered to host a Coffee Morning event, Macmillan can send you an optional fundraising kit that includes bunting, balloons, and a tablecloth.

The best thing about Macmillan’s Coffee Morning is that it can be organised in any way you want. For example, Macmillan is encouraging people to set up an event wherever they want — be it your home, garden, driveway, or even online. It doesn’t even have to focus just on coffee and can instead come in the form of a barbeque, a lunch, and include activities like a quiz or games.

When is Macmillan’s Coffee Morning?

Macmillan’s Coffee Morning is due to take place on September 29.

However, this doesn’t mean that you have to stick to the rules. Instead, you can host a coffee morning on any date that suits you best.

How can I organise a coffee morning?

To take part in Macmillan’s Coffee Morning, register your details through the Macmillan website. Then, set up a Coffee Morning fundraising page and start inviting your friends and family to the upcoming event.

Sharing the details of your fundraising page with your friends means that they can also donate online if they can’t attend in person.

On the day, have fun! Spark up conversations, tuck into delicious cakes and enjoy spending time with the people around you.

Following the event, you’ll then need to make your donation to Macmillan. You can either pay it online, at a bank, post office or over the phone. If you need any help, you can talk to the Macmillan team at any time for support on making payments.
