Man arrested over barracks murders

12 April 2012

A man has been arrested by detectives investigating the murders of two soldiers outside a military base in Northern Ireland.

Sappers Mark Quinsey, 23, from Birmingham, and Patrick Azimkar, 21 from London, were shot dead at the gates of Massereene Army barracks in March as they waited for a pizza delivery.

The 44-year-old man, detained by police in Mid Ulster, was also questioned about the attempted murder of five other people in the same gun attack on March 7 which was later claimed by the Real IRA.

One man has already been been charged with the two murders.
