Man in court over student murder

12 April 2012

A civil servant is to appear in court charged with the murder of teenager Michael Jones.

Tony Paul, 45, of Gilbert Street, Enfield Highway, north London, was charged on Thursday.

He was remanded in custody and will appear at Enfield Magistrates' Court.

The 18-year-old student was described as considerate and loving by his mother - who discovered his body in the home they shared in Edmonton on Thursday last week.

Michael's mother Kathleen Kirby-Jones made the discovery in the computer room of their maisonette.

The teenager, who was studying geography at Queen Mary, University of London, wanted to be a town planner or a teacher, his mother added.

Anyone with information on his death is asked to contact police on 020 8345 3985 or Crimestoppers free and anonymously on 0800 555 111.
