12 April 2012

A 20-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a marine biology student who was found dead in her halls of residence.

Jason Webster, of Beverley Road, Hull, appeared at Beverley Magistrates' Court accused of the murder of Rebecca Love.

The body of the 26-year-old was found by staff in her room at The Lawns complex at Hull University, Harland Way, Cottingham, on Friday afternoon.

Webster, a second year history undergraduate at the university, was remanded in custody to appear at Hull Crown Court on May 16.

Police launched a murder inquiry after a post-mortem examination revealed that the student had been assaulted.

Miss Love, from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, was studying a foundation year in marine biology taught at Hull College, with the intention of continuing on to a three-year degree in the same subject at Hull University.
