Footage has emerged appearing to show Everton player Ross Barkley being attacked at a nightclub whilst out celebrating his team's win.

The CCTV film shows the midfielder seemingly chatting casually to a man, dressed in a dark top, at the bar.

A few seconds in the man appears to launch an attack on Barkley - apparently punching him twice in the face until the player stumbles back off-camera.

Another man at the bar then grabs the man and drags him away from the player as he appears to try to launch himself at him again.

The video was shared by the EPLBible Twitter account, which describes itself as the “unofficial premier league page run by fans”.

It appears to be shot from a computer playing CCTV footage of the incident which, according to The Guardian, occurred at a bar in Liverpool in the early hours of Monday morning.

Barkley is believed to have been out celebrating Everton's 4-2 win over Leicester on Sunday.

Merseyside Police released a statement saying it is "aware of footage online reportedly showing an assault in a bar in Liverpool city centre".

“No report of an assault has been received but officers are making enquiries to establish the circumstances of the incident,” the statement added.

Everton Football Club has been contacted for comment.
