The family of a terminally ill London schoolgirl supported her plans to be cryogenically frozen after her death in a bid to “make her last wish come true," they say.

The 14-year-old was at the centre of a historic High Court battle to allow her mother to have sole responsibility of the disposal of her body in the hope that she could be brought back to life if doctors were to find a cure for her disease.

She died on October 17 before her body was treated by volunteers from Cryonics UK and shipped to the Cryonics Institute, in Michigan, to be suspended in liquid nitrogen.

Speaking about the decision, her uncle told the Daily Mail that the girl’s family, none of whom can be named for legal reasons, “had their doubts” about the £37,000 procedure but wanted to fulfil his niece’s last wish.

He said: “It is not that we were thinking it will be a successful project or not. We just did it for her. We respected the idea because it was her last wish and we tried our best to make it come true.

“We ignored the doubts in our minds and just focused on making it happen for her. Maybe it prolonged her life for one or two days because it made her happy.

“My sister is and was completely devoted to her. Everything she did in her life, it was for her daughter. She raised her on her own.

“She is keeping hope that one day her daughter will be back.”

The girl's mother is also said to have told relatives that she believes she will see her daughter again and that she plans to make regular visits to her storage tank.

She is 'hanging on to the hope' the teenager may be cured, accoring to the uncle.
