Mother's fury over dumped gun

12 April 2012

A mother whose sons found a loaded gun in their front garden has criticised those responsible for dumping the weapon, branding them "evil".

Nimco Guled - whose 11-year-old son fired the weapon at a parked car after mistaking it for a toy - said she was disgusted that the firearm had been abandoned where children were likely to play.

West Midlands Police have confirmed that the gun was discharged in Oakfield Close, Smethwick, West Midlands although no one was injured.

The weapon was fired by the 11-year-old after being discovered by his three-year-old brother, Ms Guled said.

Describing how her elder son held the weapon out in front of him and pulled the trigger, Ms Guled said she had been left deeply shocked.

Offering her thoughts on those who dumped the weapon, Ms Guled added: "They don't have a brain, they don't have children, they are just evil and selfish. Why would anyone throw a gun where children play?"

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: "The 11-year-old boy thought the firearm was a toy and it was discharged, but no one was injured.

"We realise the impact incidences like this have on the community and police would like to reassure people we take a robust approach to tackling crime."

Earlier, Ms Guled said it was a miracle no one was hurt.

"I think I'm the luckiest mother in the world, children play out there and it could have killed them."
