Mother's pain at Jade's death

12 April 2012

Jade Goody's mother has told well-wishers that she was "not coping" as she examined flowers laid in tribute to the reality television star.

Jackiey Budden wept as she read some of the messages left with flowers outside Miss Goody's home in Upshire, Essex.

Asked how she was coping with Miss Goody's death, Ms Budden replied: "I'm not."

Ms Budden took a bunch of flowers from six-year-old Kiara Gascoigne - who had travelled with her mother Jenny, 30, from their home in Woodford Halse, Northamptonshire, to pay their respects.

"Jade's mother took the flowers from Kiara and said she would lay them for her," said Mrs Gascoigne. "We have travelled for about one and three quarter hours to get here. We just wanted to lay some flowers in respect. We knew people would come and we wanted to be part of it."

She added: "Her death has left me terribly moved. She has been in our lives for a long time. I think she will be remembered for doing a lot for women."

Hundreds of well-wishers made their way to Upshire during the day to leave flowers, cards, balloons - and a replica of an Irish Tricolour flag outside the gates of Miss Goody's home.

Pensioner Marjorie Loftus, 78, from Barnet, north London, left a heart-shaped card with the message: "You may not have known where East Anglia was but you did know the way to our hearts."

Mrs Loftus added: "She has done more to publicise cervical cancer than all the politicians put together. Who would have thought that?"

Miss Goody's husband, Jack Tweed, left the house at around 2pm but said nothing to waiting journalists as he was driven away.
