A fascinating glimpse into Prince William’s daily life as an RAF search and rescue helicopter captain was revealed today.

From taking the controls of his Sea King helicopter to enjoying a fry-up, making the tea after finishing a 24-hour shift, and joking with crewmates, the 30-year-old prince is clearly loving life in the air force.

A series of photographs posted on his official website show him during the course of a day at RAF Valley in Anglesey, north Wales, where he has been based since 2010.

Flight Lieutenant Wales qualified as a helicopter captain in June and leads a four-man crew. On duty he works a 24-hour shift at the base and must never be more than 60 seconds from his machine, ready to be airborne.

During a shift, William sleeps on base, leaving wife Kate alone at their nearby rented farmhouse.

He has been involved in several dramatic missions, including one in August in which he rescued a teenage girl close to drowning after being swept out to sea. He has until the end of this year to choose whether he will continue with the RAF.
