Adventure Island: Panic as police deal with assault at theme park

Panic ensued at a theme park in Southend, Essex, as police were alerted to the scene after a fight broke out on Friday.

The incident at Adventure Island led to people “running and screaming” through the theme park, according to reports.

Adventure Island confirmed to the Standard the park remains open to customers.

Essex Police said: “We are on the scene of an incident at Adventure Island, in Western Esplanade, #Southend.

“We were called shortly before 4.40pm today, Friday 20 August, with reports of an assault.

“Our units arrived within two minutes to begin dealing with the incident. A number of arrests have been made.

“There are no confirmed reports of weapons of any kind being used against anyone. We will provide an update when we can.”

A Twitter suggested a fight broke out over a ride and shared a video showing a group of police officers gathered at the site.

Another person wrote: "How can I go to adventure island and a fight breaks and security starts getting beat up."

Another social media user said: “Not sure what’s happening we have been evacuated out of Adventure Island due to a code Red.

“There’s loads of Police and other Emergency services here.”
