Piccadilly line commuters left stuck on hot trains for up to an hour due to a signal systems faliure

The entire Piccadilly line was suspended due to a signal failure leaving commuters stuck on sweltering trains for up to an hour.

The District line is also part suspended due to a signal failure, causing chaos on the underground network as commuters attempt to make their way home from work.

People on Piccadilly line trains have spoken of their frustration at being stuck during the rush hour commute home.

Transport for London announced that there was no service on the entire line as they tried to fix a 'signal systems' failure.

At 5.36pm, TfL announced service had resumed on the Piccadilly line with severe delays to all destinations, advising customers to use alternative routes or methods of transport to reach their destinations.

Joe Carlebath, 57, said he had been waiting at Barons Court for his 12-year-old daughter to come home from school in Cockfosters.

He told the Standard that he has been unable to get in touch with his daughter due to the lack of phone signal.

"There was no indication of what was going on. She gets on at 6am every day to get to school and the least you can expect is the trains to run on time.

"Communication has been poor. Customer services had no idea and there are no station staff visible at Barons Court. When there were they were mobbed."
