Piers Morgan has admitted defeat in his personal Twitter campaign to oust Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager.

Wenger, who has been manager since 1996, signed a new three year contract this afternoon.

Renowned Arsenal fan Morgan took to twitter to concede.

He began his #WengerOut campaign over criticism over his managerial decisions including player selections which were not always popular with fans.

But this afternoon he tweeted: “My #WengerOut campaign has therefore failed, and I accept defeat.

“I will also now throw my support behind Wenger for the duration of his new contract. While reserving the right to be critical.”

Morgan’s comments come after his appearance on BBC’s Question Time panel last night.

Before his appearance he was embroiled in a Twitter spat with QPR midfielder Joey Barton.

Wenger's deal was first offered more than six months ago, but it is believed the manager wanted to wait until the end of the season before making a commitment.
