Plea to mystery woman over murder

12 April 2012

The murder of a 30-year-old man who was gunned down at a nightclub has been described by police as "a brutal attack on a defenceless family man".

Father of one Damian Gordon was shot dead either in the entrance to or outside the Icon club in Westgate, Bradford.

Detective Superintendent Paul Taylor, leading the investigation for West Yorkshire Police, said he did not have any motive for the attack at this stage.

But Mr Taylor said he believed there may be a Manchester connection and in particular a mystery woman who made an anonymous call to contact his team again.

The detective told the press conference: "We believe that woman is from the Manchester area. She gave us very very specific information which we believe is very significant for this investigation. I would urge that woman to get back in touch with the police."

Mr Taylor said the victim, who had currently not been working, was married with a four-year-old son and lived in the Swain House area of Bradford.

He said Mr Gordon, who was also known as Mikey, was not known to the police.

Mr Taylor said he knew there were many people in the club at the time of the shooting, but only a small number had yet come forward.

The detective said: "There would appear to be a Manchester connection with this. Certain people there at Icon were from Manchester. These are either witnesses or those who we feel are significant to this investigation."

Mr Taylor said a number of shots were fired in the incident, probably from a handgun.
