Many Britons would like Charles and Camilla to stand aside to allow Prince William to ascend directly to the throne, according to three new polls.
More than half (55%) of Britons would like William to leapfrog the Prince of Wales and ascend directly to the throne, according to a poll for the News of the World.
The survey also found almost two-thirds (64%) of people quizzed thought William and fiancee Kate Middleton would be better for the long-term prospects of the monarchy, compared to only 19% who plumped for Charles and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall.
A separate poll published in The People found almost half (49%) of people wanted William and Miss Middleton on the throne, more than three times the 16% who opted for Charles and Camilla.
Fewer than one in 10 (7%) said they would like Prince Harry to overtake both his brother and father to become king.
The findings come a day after the Prince of Wales indicated for the first time that the Duchess of Cornwall "could be" Queen if he becomes King.
A third poll for the Sunday Mirror found three-quarters (76%) of people believe that Diana, Princess of Wales would have been "pleased" with Prince William's choice of bride.
Almost two-thirds (63%) said they believed William's marriage would be happier than that of his parents.
