A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a gay man in Tower Hamlets.

Police said a man was arrested on Wednesday, October 27, in connection with the murder and has been taken into custody.

A 36-year-old man, who was previously arrested in connection with the investigation, has been released on bail to a date in mid-November.

Mr Kankanamalage was found with fatal head injuries and a post-mortem confirmed they were caused by blunt force trauma.

The “horrendous” murder sparked fear in London’s LGBTQ+ community.

Officers from Specialist Crime are investigating the murder, which has been categorised as a homophobic hate crime from the outset.

Enquiries remain ongoing.
