Rape inquiry to question TV's Brand

12 April 2012

Comedian Russell Brand is to be questioned by police after a woman claimed she was raped during a party at a flat where the E4 presenter was staying.

The alleged assault is said to have happened at a property in Edinburgh where Brand spent the night while performing at the city's fringe festival.

A 20-year-old is reported to have contacted police after attending a party attended by the star at the flat eight days ago. He is expected to be interviewed as part of the investigation by detectives at Lothian and Borders Police.

A force spokesman said: "We are investigating a report of sexual assault which is believed to have happened in a flat in Edinburgh.

"A number of people have still to be traced and interviewed, and as such we cannot comment further."

The charismatic presenter, who has been linked to Kate Moss and Courtney Love, was forced to cancel two show at the festival last month following a bout of laryngitis.

He is said to be holidaying in Morocco before embarking on an English tour at the end of the month.
