The cost of policing the funeral of stabbed burglar Henry Vincent is expected to exceed £45,000, new figures show.

Vincent was killed during a break-in at the home of Richard Osborn-Brooks in Hither Green when the 78-year-old stabbed him with a screwdriver in self defence.

Now Freedom of Information figures show the Met deployed more than 150 police officers, two helicopters and 34 vehicles during the 38-year-old criminal’s funeral last month.

The Met said police officer costs were £44,643 but they did not include operational costs such as the use of National Police Air Service helicopters or vehicles.

The funeral was hit by outbursts of trouble involving youths hurling stones, eggs and bottles at bystanders in Orpington.

A force spokeswoman said the policing operation was based on the possible risk of disorder and the threat to public safety.
