Robert Jobson commentary: Meghan Markle is his princess already

Prince Harry's relationship with Meghan Markle is clearly serious, writes Robert Jobson

The relationship between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is clearly serious.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if this situation ends in marriage, sooner rather than later.

The Prince is, after all, 32 and she is a divorcée three years his senior. He has also expressed a desire to “have children and settle down”.

So, for this couple, the clock is ticking with regard to marriage and children. The clearest sign is that Harry, a man who wears his heart on his sleeve, is ready to protect Meghan with a freelance bodyguard if necessary.

The Queen only signs off on Scotland Yard providing personal protection from the elite Royalty and Specialist Protection squad — called Special Operations 14 — once a royal couple of sufficient rank have become engaged.

There have been cutbacks everywhere, even in this area. Our story that he is willing to dip into his own pocket to pay to protect Meghan shows that, to him, the American actress is his princess already.

However, as this whirlwind romance continues to make headlines around the world, my only concern is that she doesn’t really, truly know what she is letting herself in for.

Royalty is royalty, not celebrity. It is a lifetime commitment.

Nobody wants to see a return to the excesses of the times when paparazzi hounded Harry’s late mother Princess Diana. It seems by his actions that the Prince agrees.
