Seven charged after homecoming demo

Detectives investigating a disturbance at a parade for soldiers returning home from Iraq have charged seven people with public order offences.

Anti-war protests erupted as soldiers from the 2nd Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment paraded through Luton town centre on March 10.

Seven people from Luton will appear at the town's magistrates' court on September 16 charged with public order offences.

They are Jalal Ahmed, 21, of Cavendish Road, Yousaf Bashir, 29, of Dane Road, Ibrahim Anderson, 32, of Warwick Road West, Jubair Ahmed, 19, of Beech Road, Ziaur Rahman, 33, of Nunnery Lane, Shajjadar Choudhury, 30, of Essex Close and Munim Abdul, 28, of Highbury Road.

Police also charged 12 other people in connection with another disturbance in Luton town centre on May 24.
