Boy, 13, arrested after stealing Covid testing van and crashing it into car

A 13-year-old boy has been arrested after stealing a Covid testing van and crashing it into a car.

South Yorkshire Police said the boy fled on foot but was found nearby and detained.

Staff at a business on Weedon Street in Sheffield called officers at 04.15am following reports that a van had been stolen.

Officers spotted the van on Bramall Lane at 6.30am it stopped on Queens Road after colliding with a silver Ford Ka.

The driver, from Sheffield, was arrested on suspicion of burglary/theft of a motor vehicle, police said.

The driver of the Ford KA, a man in his 50s, was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service also attended to help make the scene safe.

Queens Road was closed at the junction with Duchess Road for a time but has since reopened.
