Portugal is by far the most searched for destination on the UK’s travel green list according to a new study that analysed Google search data.
The research, conducted by luxury resort company Club Med, looked at search volumes for each country over the past year to determine which one would be the most popular for holidaymakers.
Portugal appeared to be the most searched for location, with “Portugal holidays” being searched a total of 199, 640 times. Iceland was next with 109,040 searches.
Gibralter, which is seated on Spain’s south coast, sits at number three with 31,140 searches.
Israel made it to number seven on the list, although the ongoing violence and conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza will likely put many people off from travelling into the country.
Faraway destinations such as Australia, New Zealand and Singapore were also in the top ten.
The figures came just a day after the UK entered the latest phase of the roadmap out of lockdown.
Estelle Giraudeau, Managing Director UK & Northern Europe at Club Med, said: “Brits have been waiting patiently for international travel to officially be back on the cards since the most recent UK-wide lockdown.
“Many people haven’t had the chance to travel out of the country since the pandemic started, with local lockdowns in some cases meaning international travel has been impossible.”
As restrictions continue to ease, Club Med is now offering complimentary Covid-19 insurance to cover all medical expenses including testing, as well as easy refunds.
