Teenager admits Corrie star assault

12 April 2012

A teenager has pleaded guilty to an attack on a Coronation Street star which left him with a broken jaw.

Stuart Stocks, 19, was charged with grievous bodily harm after he punched Mikey North, who plays bad boy Gary Windass in the ITV1 soap, breaking his jaw in two places.

Stocks, of Elm Grove, Sherburn, North Yorkshire, admitted the offence at Scarborough Magistrates' Court and will be sentenced next month.

The attack happened in Scarborough on April 11 when North was returning home after a night out with his girlfriend.

The 22-year-old actor needed emergency surgery for his injuries.

North, originally from Cayton, near Scarborough, joined the Coronation Street cast last year and scenes he was due to film in the weeks following the attack had to be re-written.

Sentencing was adjourned until June 11 for pre-sentence reports and Stocks was remanded on unconditional bail.
