Teenager shot in betting shop dies

12 April 2012

A double shooting turned into a murder investigation after a 16-year-old boy, injured in a betting shop incident, died in hospital.

The 16-year-old and an 18-year-old man were shot at a William Hill betting shop in Mouldeth Road West, Withington, Manchester, on the night of January 29.

The 18-year-old received gunshot wounds to his stomach and torso and was taken to hospital by friends. The 16-year-old was shot in the chest, shoulder and leg.

They were being treated at Manchester Royal Infirmary and Trafford General Hospital but on Sunday the 16-year-old died.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said on Sunday night: "The teenager was being treated in hospital but died this afternoon. Inquiries into his exact cause of death and the circumstances surrounding the shooting are continuing."

No other details were released by police and the boy who died has not been named.

The spokesman said the 18-year-old remained in hospital.

Last week Chief Superintendent David Anthony of Greater Manchester Police said the two victims were with three male friends in the bookmakers when shots were fired.

Police believe there were up to 10 people in the betting shop at the time of the incident.
