Prince Harry today paid a poignant tribute to the heroes and victims of the Borough Market terror attack.

Harry, 32, went to the scene of the tragedy - where three jterrorists armed with knives killed eight people and injured 48 before being gunned down by police - to show the world the market is "open for business."

A Kensington Palace spokesman said: "Prince Harry was keen to come down as soon as possible to spread the message that this vibrant market is open for business."

He also went behind the stall at "Bread Ahead" run by baker Matt Jones, 47, whose staff fought off attackers with brooms and crates as they went on the violent rampage stabbing innocent people.

"The strength of this community and London as a whole is magic,” the prince told Mr Jones.

Matt told Harry: "The business was in full operation. I was at home at the time but I had staff working on the night of the attack.

"Two of them got involved throwing bread crates at the attackers to try and save one of the women being attacked. It was really bad.

The prince met a collection of traders and restaurateurs surf near the Wheatsheaf pub, near where the attackers were killed by police.

He also met Jack Appleby who got people to safety pulling the shutters down on the Market Porter pub.

Borough Market Managing Director Darren Henaghan said: "It is absolutely marvellous that Prince Harry came here today. It means a great deal to everyone connected with the market."

The visit came as it emerged the prince, along with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, had contributed to our Dispossessed Fund after to help those affected by the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy.

They hope their contribution will inspire others to give what they can too.
