The Wurzels have announced plans for a benefit gig in aid of the victims of recent flooding in their native Somerset.

The band, best known for their hits Combine Harvester and I Am A Cider Drinker, will play the Palace Theatre in Bridgwater on March 20.

Cash raised will go towards the Somerset Flood Relief Fund, which has so far received almost £260,000 in donations.

Tommy Banner, the band's longest serving member, said: "The resilience of the community down here has been remarkable but there is only so much these people can do for themselves.

"We hope that this show will help aid and support their recovery over the coming months and help them to get back to normal as soon as possible".

According to an official online fundraising page for the flood victims, money donated will be put towards emergency repairs of homes, compensation for those who have experienced a loss of earnings, as well as support for local businesses who have suffered.

The Wurzels originally formed in 1966 as a backing group for singer/songwriter Adge Cutler, who died in a car crash in 1974.

They still perform regularly across the UK.
