Tindall charged with drink-driving

12 April 2012

England rugby international Mike Tindall has been charged with drink-driving.

Tindall, who also plays centre for Gloucester, was stopped by police on the M4 the day after attending a party at the Cheltenham Racing Festival with his girlfriend, Zara Phillips.

He was out of the England team due to a shoulder injury at the time, but was reportedly travelling to Twickenham stadium to commentate on England's Six Nations match against Ireland.

In a statement, his club said: "Although Mike is unable to comment any further while the case is ongoing he fully recognises the potential dangers of drink-driving and will issue a full statement when the case has been concluded.

"In the meantime, Mike remains totally focussed on his rugby and ensuring a successful end to Gloucester's season."

Tindall has been bailed by Thames Valley Police to appear at Reading Magistrates' Court on May 14.
