12 April 2012

Three people have been killed when a vehicle crashed into the side of a house.

The incident happened in Dalton Hill, Hamilton, in South Lanarkshire.

A Strathclyde Police spokeswoman said: "Police are in attendance after a vehicle collided with the side of a house.

"There are three fatalities."

Fire crews said the three people who died were the occupants of the car which crashed into the two-storey building.

The detached home partially collapsed with the force of the collision but those inside escaped injury.

A statement from Strathclyde Fire and Rescue said: "The crews quickly worked to make the immediate area safe and effectively deal with the incident.

"Although the residents of the house escaped injury, all three occupants of the vehicle tragically died as a result of the collision.

"Strathclyde Police are currently carrying out an investigation into the cause of the accident."
