12 April 2012

Two men have been charged with murder after a street attack in which the father of a young baby was stabbed to death.

Mohammed Muftah, 39, and Kayshn Farooq, 28, both from Elland, West Yorkshire, will appear at Calderdale Magistrates' Court accused of the murder of the 33-year-old man in Elland on Friday.

They are also charged with the attempted murder of the dead man's 35-year-old brother, who was taken to hospital with serious injuries following the alleged attack, and witness intimidation.

A 50-year-old man, who was also arrested in connection with the murder, is currently in hospital under police guard.

The two men were stabbed in an area between Catherine Street and Langdale Street at 5pm on Friday.

Both were taken to hospital, where the 33-year-old, named locally as Billy Khan, was pronounced dead.

His brother is still receiving treatment in hospital, where his condition is described as "improving".

Friends of the men said the man who died was the father of a young baby and that his brother was also a father.
