Two face court over BNP leaked list

12 April 2012

A man and a woman are appearing in court to face charges brought under the Data Protection Act after a British National Party membership list was leaked on to the internet.

The 27-year-old woman and the man, 30, will appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court.

The woman is understood to be Sadie Graham, who was expelled from the far-right party in late 2007 after falling out with its leadership.

They were charged by Dyfed-Powys police following an investigation into the publication of a BNP membership list in November last year.

The list, which was published online, included the names, addresses and contact details of some 10,000 BNP members.

It provoked uproar when it appeared on a blog, revealing the occupations of some members. It included the names of current and former servicemen, teachers, doctors and a police officer.

BNP leader Nick Griffin lodged a complaint with Dyfed-Powys police, his local force, on the grounds that publishing the list breached human rights and data protection laws.

The two accused were arrested in Brinsley, Nottinghamshire, last December.

Both were living in Nottingham at the time of the alleged offence, police said earlier.
