Two quizzed over station murder

12 April 2012

A murder investigation was under way after a youth stabbed another teenager to death at a train station, police said.

Officers were called to Dewsbury railway station, West Yorkshire, at around 2.10pm on Saturday after receiving reports that a 17-year-old had been seriously assaulted.

They arrested another 17-year-old at the scene.

The stab victim, who was local, was taken to Dewsbury District where he later died from his injuries.

Police later arrested a 24-year-old in the area, and he was also being detained for questioning.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said the victim would not be named by officers until relatives were informed of the tragedy.

A senior investigating officer Detective Superintendent Paul Kennedy was leading the inquiry team.

Train services from the station were disrupted while police carried out investigations.

British Transport Police said the dead teenager was from the Batley area.

A spokeswoman said: "Passengers are advised to contact National Rail services prior to travel on 08457 484950."
